Even though this cowl design is published now (08-Dec-2021), it has been my favourite cozy everyday winter wear for quite a long time, along with the Clear Sky Unisex Hat, when I lived in Grenoble, France. Grenoble is the largest city at the foot of French Alps (Also it’s the capital of the French Alps). It’s surrounded by hills and mountains and has cold windy winters. I have tried different type of neck accessories, to keep me warm in the winter but finally this has become my favourite. Need not worry about adjusting like wearing a scarf, it doesn’t come in your way while being active outdoors, especially with kids. It’s even great for snow hiking and skiing.

The Clear Sky Unisex Cow is a tall neck hugging cowl which has enough bulk to keep you warm in any kind of freezing winters if you make it with a 100% wool yarn. It is designed with a sport weight (#2, Fine) 100% Superwash Merino Yarn. Even if you don’t have freezing winters, the merino yarn can moderate body temperature. So it doesn’t make you sweat if the weather turns a little warmer or if your body has become hotter during any physical activity like hiking or skiing.

Tunisian Honeycomb Stitch pattern is used throughout the project, giving a subtle texture to the fabric, easy to create, and no worries of curling. Along with the sport weight yarn it makes relatively thinner fabric when compared to the usual tunisian crochet fabric. Also this stitch pattern creates a good tweed with two colours for the transition block (same stitch pattern but working with two colours).

Since it is a tall cowl, it can act as a multipurpose/multi utility accessory, as a snood- cum-cowl or a mask-cum-cowl (for the windy winters) or just a bulky cowl around your neck. This color block cowl makes a great unisex cowl just by altering the colors used. It’s a classic design which never goes out of trend, making it an everyday elegant accessory. It is designed for a wide range of size. Normally the tweed is created with two colors when worked in a row, but with a little trick it is easily adapted to working in continuous rounds.

Hook Size

US 7(4.5mm) Double-ended Tunisian Hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge 

24sts X 24rows = 4” X 4” (10 X 10 cm) in Tunisian Honeycomb Pattern (THcP), blocked.
